Priority Upgrade vs. Regular Upgrade waitlist

Sometimes I hear people talk about 'priority' waitlist, so this time when I called back to check whether I have cleared on a waitlist (SFO-LHR) I asked the agent whether there was a priority waitlist and whether I could be put on it and she said yes.

Since she changed it for me and told me it was done, this tells me that there are 2 different waitlists. Does anyone know how do you normally get on the priority waitlist? and does it really make a difference?

I couldn't find anything on PremEx's website, but maybe I missed it?

Thanks.

If you're a 1k you automatically go on the priority waitlist. I would imagine that after that it would probably be based on your fare basis?

May I ask a few related questions?

On a UA waitlist, if one is a 1K, does s/he automatically get PA, even for NC/NF or XC/XF?

I am a Premier Executive and have so far flown international routes only -- NRTBKK, NRTJFK, NRTSIN, etc.

I always seem to get to only PB when I am waitlisted either for a purchased economy seat (booked usually under B) and for NC.

I was upgraded to PA last month after ... oh ... I don't know how many calls I made for
waiting push requests.

I don't know if this is true but I also read somewhere on a Japanese web site forum that the status does not matter so much for an NC waitlist so long as you are above Premier.

The only thing that counts for an NC waitlist is how early you got listed. Can this be true?

My understanding is that 1k gets the top priority, with the 1k on the list the earliest moving to the top of the list, if there is more than one 1k on the list. I believe that if you are 1k you automatically go to PA.

On the day of the flight there is a Departure Management upgrade list (referred to as a DM list) that is monitored by the gate agent. This list is ranked by status (1k, PE, P) and by the time you checked in. As a P or PE you could check in 3 hours before the flight and be #1 on the list. If 30 minutes before departure two 1ks check in and ask to be added to the list, as a P or PE you'd find yourself to be #3 on the list. If you're P and a PE checks in, same deal, you slide down the list.

As they say in the armed services, RHIP (rank has its privledges http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ).
