Incorrect Waitlist Priority Info from 1K Desk??

I just got off the phone after changing some tickets. I had a conversation wtih the 1K agent and she said I was mistaken about the waitlist priority for upgrades. My understanding was that once everything goes to departure management upgrades are cleared by status then fare class (I usually try to book M or H for this reason). She said that it clears by status and then how much you spent the prior year.

I believe she is mistaken, but just wanted to confirm that nothing has changed.

I have a hard time believing that United's systems are sophisticated enough to retain all of my $$$ spend and run a total that feeds the DM list. I am sure the information is out there in their data warehouse, but it just doesn't sound like something that they would be able to do.

She is incorrect about gate clearance (DM) as far as I know. Many agents don't know what they're talking about, as most of us at FT can attest.

Here's what I received from a customer service email not long ago. It matches what lucky and others have observed.

As you know, our agents are to follow a
clearance order as follows: passengers denied boarding on earlier United
flights, passengers from cancelled United flights, United
misconnections, and then full fare revenue passengers. For all other
customers, priority is further divided by Mileage Plus status - 1K,
Premier Executive, and Premier, fare paid and check-in time.

That e-mail quotataion is not exactly correct either, but whatever, it's close enough.

Not correct for upgrades, true (e.g., IDBd pax would get Y, not F), but it's correct for standby pax, right?

Right or wrong, I have been told on several occasions that the price of the ticket factors into the upgrade order. That may really mean the fare class, but the GAs have definitely said ticket price.

It was to describe standby in layman's terms:

passengers denied boarding on earlier United
flights, passengers from cancelled United flights, United
misconnections, and then full fare revenue passengers.
(This describes BP1A, though I am confused about the full-fare part).

For all other customers, priority is further divided by Mileage Plus status - 1K, Premier Executive, and Premier, fare paid and check-in time.
(This describes BP1B).
