2000 Credentials Kit Update

Talked to the Mileage Plus 1K Desk tonight and was told that the 2000 1K Kits were released to be sent by First Class mail yesterday, and that 1K's should receive them within 7 to 10 days.

Premier Executives and Premiers will be next, and should be receiving theirs in about 4 weeks by Bulk Rate mail.

First Class mail? These guys are getting awfully loose with their dollars! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

LAX 1K Jan 25, 2000 11:32 pm

YEah!! Nice to see they are coming to us.. I will get to check out those 6 systemwide upgrades. I am still waiting for my upgrades (confirmable) from the 4th quarter. Did anyone get 4th quarter confirmable upgrades???

Thanks again PremEx!

PremEx Jan 26, 2000 12:21 am

LAX 1K, I have not seen mine yet. But if the past is any indication, they are usually issued around a month and 10 days after the end of the quarter. Which statement or direct mailing they then make it into is anyones guess. But...there's always hope. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Not good enough! I need that systemwide upgrade by next Wednesday! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm still waiting for my upgrades from last quarter. . For all you 1ks who may not fly internationaly, I will exchange 3 confirmed upgrades,North America--for each system wide upgrade. Have 16 available, good from 3/31/00 to 12/31/00. Also have 7 packets of 500 mile upgrades to offer in exchange for the system wide upgrades. Dates on 500 mile upgrade certs range from 5/31/00 to 12/31/00. 90%l my flying is International.

MileKing Jan 27, 2000 8:58 am

In regards to Uncle1K's offer, if I trade a systemwide upgrade for a pak of North American 500 mile certs., can I then redposit those 500 mile certs into my account for mileage credit (i.e. the 250 miles per that UA offers)? Anyone ever done this? My concern is that the certs are numbered and UA would not credit me for someone else's certs.

PremEx Jan 27, 2000 1:10 pm

MileKing...no problem at all. As long as they are the complimentary ones...not the ones that have been purchased.

I'm an LAX based 1K and my flying is almost all international over the Pacific. I'd make the same deal. 3 of the domestic one segment upgrades for 1 of the new systemwide upgrades. I've also got a stack of 500 mile certs and would work a deal with those as well.

MileKing Jan 31, 2000 9:53 am

Any idea what the system-wide upgrades might fetch in 500 mile upgrade coupons (the ones that can be returned for miles)?

PremEx Jan 31, 2000 12:25 pm

Well let's see. I often see folks trade a One-Way Confirmed North American upgrade for 10 to 20 of the 500 Mile upgrade certs.

Then I've seen offered 3-4 One-Way Confirmed North American Upgrade certs for 1 of these new Any-Fare Systemwides.

So, I guess the Any-Fare Systemwide:500 Mile ratio could be anywhere in the 30-80 500 mile certs per 1 Any-Fare Systemwide range.

30 500 mile certs have a 'return for mileage' value of 7,500 Mileage Plus miles, while 80 500 mile certs have a return value of 20,000 miles.

But it really just boils down to what someone offers and what someone is willing to accept as a fair trade.

FYI, I'm going to be using all of mine, assuming these turn out to be what is speculated they are.

Here's a thought... when do you think UA will implement electronic upgrades like DL or AA? That would be way more convenient than having to wait for your certs. in the mail. Anyone know if the folks of the Friendly Skies have plans for this?

Thx
Jamester

Jamester...A Mileage Plus rep told me they have been told that they are shooting for implimentation of Electronic Complimentary Upgrades (all types) sometime in the second quarter of this year. They have no information at this time as to the transferablity of these new Electronic Upgrades. This probably won't be announced until the implimentaion of the Electronic Upgrades System.

This is bad news for those of us who are often the beneficiaries of nice agents who sometimes do not collect the certificates, or others of us who have learned how to turn United's tardiness into additional upgrade opportunities. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

And if they do switch to electronic versions, I hope they make provisions for full transferablity to a friend or family members, as some other programs that do this electonically do not allow transferablity.

As Premex says - it really boils down to what someone thinks is an acceptable trade. I have traded confirmed one way upgrades and received 6-7 500 mile certs (I have also used some confirmed upgrades for an upgrade on a 1500 mile flight). I'm no longer 1K and have no remaining 1 way upgrades.

Jamester Jan 31, 2000 1:12 pm

PremEx,

Hmm, oh yeah, I remember now. DL used to have paper upgrade and I was a beneficiary of a very nice customer service agent who tends to "forget" to collect my upgrade, or even collect the expired ones. Not anymore though, since they implemented the electronic upgr. Maybe once in a blue moon they forget to deduct one upgrade point. Of course another advantage was when I flew from SLC-OMA...815 miles total while DL's upgrade certs. are 800 mile a pop. They told me they would upgrade me with only one coupon only if I promise to move to Coach a minute before landing. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
