747-400
Wow--just got off the upper deck of a 747-400 from SFO-DEN. THe first time I have had the opportunity to ride upstairs. What a fantastic experience! I thought I liked the 777--but the upper deck business calss sure was nice. Felt as though I was on my own private plane. I am going to look for the chance again for the upper deck!

My wife & I had the good fortune to get comped to the upstairs on a flight from IAD to LHR back in May. Great ride, new seats & video, excellent service.
I still like the 777, even in coach. Flew it twice from IAD-AMS and loved it. If you must fly in the back, 16A&B or H&J (bulkhead) are the best. |
Well I don't want to burst anyone's bubble regarding the PIP Express, but one we're on is currently an older 747-200, and more than likely will have the older Business Class seats without all the bells and whistles and a little less legroom. Comparable to Domestic First. But there's always hope it might have somehow been upgraded before our flight. I'm going to be on Flight #57 on September 1st and will be able to report on it's current configuration.

which hotel do you stay finally (Outrigger Hobrone?)? we will met at the Moana Surfrider, ok? looking forward to see you (and hopefully tropicalflyer?) |
PremEx, after the PIP Express Pre-Departure Bash at the United Red Carpet Club, who is really going to notice the difference? http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Shadow, in coach on a 777 16C and 16G (inside aisle seats) are even better. Still bulkhead, but because the row in front is business class their aisle is more towards the center than the coach aisle. Result: mostly curtain in front of you, and more space to stretch the legs!
|
Just to mention - the bulkhead on a 777 with the beds in First is, I think, 17 not 16.
Don't know if they've made any difference to the legroom there in the act of reconfiguration. I was too busy enjoying the bed from SFO-IAD on Monday to notice! |
Markie is right, the bulkhead row in Y on the new 777's is 17. This goes for the 777's with the First Suite as well as the more recent deliveries without the Suite (i.e. post-1997, I think). I was in 17C on one of these, and the legroom is still there, with the curtain in front of you. The aisle kind of "offsets" here due to the different widths of the C aisle and Y aisle, and that's why you have this "bonus." However, if you really, really want legroom, row 30 is still the way to go for the window and the exit row.

you are correct...the 777 we were on was one that had not been refitted with the sleeper seats. 16H/J was a bulkhead with nothing in front of us except a curtain.

Does anybody know if one can tell by the seating charts on UA Connection (Disk Version) if the 777 is configured with First Suite or not. (Ie. by looking at the Business Section or Coach section starting/having different row numbers?)
Thanks. |

Thanks PremEx. I have seen this seating chart in the back of the UA Schedule. It appears the difference between suite and non-suite configuration is no row 10 in Biz, and no row 16 in coach. Is first rows 1-3? Plus looking at seating charts on UA Connection, I have never seen a 777 with row row 10 and 16 missing? Maybe they just don't indicate it. http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

SF1K, I haven't found any of the new 777 seating charts with the UC software. Even on flights that I know have the Suite (SFO-LHR, I think is one of them) it still shows the same seating chart as all the other 777 flights. In fact, I once put myself in seat 17H and ended up in the bulkhead even though on the seating chart I was in the second row...
