Posting Ansett miles?

How long does it usually take to post Ansett Australia miles to Mileage Plus accounts? I had flights in mid-April that haven't shown up yet.

I, too, had mid-April flights on Ansett that have yet to be posted. UA said to send copies of ticket and boarding passes (if possible) and they'd take care of it.

My flights on Air New Zealand were posted as quickly as my UA flights.

By the way, keep in mind Ansett does not award 100% of thier miles - I think it might be 1/3, but I'm not sure. I didn't know this until the UA rep told me. So keep that in mind when they finally do get posted.

Also, read the post by one of our Aussie friends: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum13/HTML/000013.html . I'm in the process of trying to determin if we as Americans can qualify for that 5000 point Star Alliance bonus. If you happen to take up the sleuth duties on this subject and find out either way, post it here if you could. Good luck and...

Hopefully you didn't make the same error I did with Ansett. I took five flights with Ansett last September, and never received credit. After following up with MP three times over four months, I finally learned that you had to fly a US-Australia segment on a revenue ticket. I had used miles to go LAX-SYD.

Less than 100% of the miles flown? Have to fly a trans-Pacific segment? Grrr.

The least the two phony reps I spoke to at United could do is alert me to these fine print items. Why do they encourage you to chase stuff like this down when it doesn't even qualify?

It may not have been phony reps, rather inept reps who aren't aware of all the rules themselves. I know it doesn't help matters, but I'll take ignorance over malice anyday.

The only way I've ever gotten Ansett flights posted is by sending the copy of the ticket and the boarding passes to Hazel at the United requent flyer center. Seems many of the folks who work the United frequent flyer center don't know how to decipher the Ansett codes. My flights in March were posted last week.

Under United Airlines' Mileage Plus membership guidelines : ANSETT AUSTRALIA - Miles will be credited only when travel is in conjuction with a paid transpacific United Airlines flight to or from Australia within 30 days of travel.

The 5000 bonus kilometers is for Ansett Frequent Flyer members only, for flying on STAR alliance international flights. The points will be credited to Global Rewards Members who fly every 2 international flights. Internal Australian Ansett flights do not count.

This is not an overall bonus for other Star Alliance partner programmes. (eg. United Mileage Plus). Besides which, how would you credit 5000 kilometers into other partners' programme in miles?

Although this is from my experience with having AN points credited to AirNZ's programme it may shed some light.

With ansett points it pays to watch the flight designator as many of their flights have a KD (kendall) designator rather than AN and it is a pain to have those points credited despite the fine print saying that points will be awarded for ansett and its subsidery airlines.

These flights are typically for flights to non capital cities, and agents can use the AN designator if they look into it.

Mark
