Codeshare discrepancy

I went to book a flight from LAX to Cancun and noticed that United had a codeshare with Mexicana. The 1st class roundtrip fare was $1351 on the United Codeshare. I called Mexicana and the 1st class fare was $1150. Is this just an abberation or normal practice?

codeshare flights LH/UA over the atlantic practically always differ in price by 100 to 300 DM in discounted eco - and by 500 - 1'000 DM for grey market business. LH being the cheaper one for the time being.

let me add: today discounted eco is cheaper flying Zurich-FRA-US than only FRA-US!

Fairly common practice Stimpy. It always a good idea to look at the code-share carrier's fare structure too!

last sep 98 I "confronted" my UA people in Zurich with a lower LH-fares (eco). UA matched that fare then by giving me a ticket with a higher fare printed on, but asking/charging only the LH-tarif, which was about 150SFr lower (reason: in Switzerland airlines have to let their fares still being "accepted" by the swiss authorities - it seems UA didn't for that discount tarif).

you always need to check both of the code-sharers to get a good fare. Just be careful not to lose out on segments or bonuses because you chose something that was $20 cheaper!
