E-cert + Voucher

Is it possible to purchase a UA ticket with a combination of both E-cert and vouchers (from past refare)? If so, how can one do so? As far as I know, you can only use e-cert on .bomb, which does not allow one to "hold" the itinerary. If I can't hold the ticket, I can't drive to airport and pay the rest using the vouchers. Please advise.

I believe some people have reported booking, holding, calling web support to apply e-cert, and ticketing at the airport, but I've never had the patience to bother. I just allocate my e-certs and vouchers so I never need to try playing these games.

I'd be curious to hear whether anyone has had success doing the above. I've tried and been shot down a couple times.

I used an e-cert once, and then the refare vouchers on the same PNR just a few months ago. I had to call UA and use the E-Cert, explaining to them that I needed to ticket at ORD. I then went down to ORD and had it ticketed using the refare vouchers. Took a while for UA to figure things out at ORD, and I ended up with a voucher in the end from applying the wrong refare, but it was worth it in the end. Good Luck.

So, based on all the replies, I guess it's pretty complicated and difficult to achieve this then?

Pretty complicated is an understatement - I keep e-certs and vouchers separate. Of course, if you have one of the stupid type AB certificates, you can't combine those with anything.

Thank god they're finally starting to do more credit card refunds.

I used to have pretty good luck with this -- that was at least a few months ago. But lately, at least here in BOS, the agents are adamant about not being able to combine e-certs with vouchers. NO NO NO, is usually the word of the day. My hunch is that this might vary by station a bit, and it's possible you might have better luck in an RCC (where I did it once).

Don't be so sure. I was able to combine one with some refare vouchers last year. Perhaps the agent broke policy for me, but she didn't even hint at a problem (and I didn't specifically ask). So I'd say that if you have some Type AB vouchers, just hand them to the agent and don't ask - let them tell you whether or not they're combinable.
