Recent problem at NRT RCC - 1P Denied Access

Not too long ago I was traveling from SFO to BKK and ran into a co-worker in transit at NRT. He opted to join me as I was heading to the the RCC. He too is 1P but in Y, I was in C and they would not let him in. Has there been a change in the RCC guidlines or just another mix-up with regards to interpretations...

Thought the lowest ranks traveling Intl that had access to the RCC were prem ex. Just wanted to know if others might have had this problem at NRT or know of a change.

Thanks..

In NRT NH lounge right now, and I didn't have any problem accessing NRT RCC for a quick shower (gotta love the shower kit there ;)).

1P in Y traveling NRT-BKK should have access to the RCC, and I would have argued quoting *A rule.

He should have been allowed access as a 1P - and also you should be permitted to guest him in too - not sure what happened here.

Was he flying another airline that day - not *A?

Thought only members, first and Business

I've been told repeatedly that you only get in if you are a member, or traveling on International business or first ticket.

WHat's a 1P?

1P is Premier Executive, which is also Star Alliance Gold (*G). A *G traveling on a *A airline should have access regardless of class of service.

Usually Japanese do things by the book and they rarely make mistakes. The only reason I can think of is that your co-worker was NOT flying a *A airline. As a Premier Executive, you may use any RCC on an international itinerary when flying *A.

International business or first ticket does NOT give you access to RCC. Were you told this by a particular RCC location?

OP could have still guested-in the co-worker regardless of airline being flown, assuming OP had not already guested-in someone else.

This off the UAL site:

United Business

Access to United Red Carpet ClubSM and
Star AllianceTM partner lounges

While researching this, I found that domestically, you're entitled to two guests whereas internationally it's one:

How many guests am I allowed with my Red Carpet Club membership?Within the United States, spouse and dependent children or two guests. Outside the United States, spouse and dependent children or one guest.
http://faq.ua2go.com/display/4/kb/br...=1084&level=3&

It's not clear whether that's just for RCC members or others that are granted access to the RCC (e.g. *A flyers from another airline, 1Ps when flying a domestic leg of an international itin), or whether it's talking about domestic vs international RCCs.

Learn something new every day.

Uh, yes it does.

With a same day United international first or biz flight, you most certainly have access.

*Bolding Mine*

Could this perhaps be one of those situations where the RCC matron saw you guys "join-up" and chose to decide that he wasn't a legitimate travel companion?

I understand that he is a 1P and therefore should be granted access on his own, but I'm just throwing this out there as a possibility.

It most certainly does give you access to the RCC.

I don't believe so. I am certain the guest (at least officially) must be traveling on a *A same-day flight - but does not need to be the same flight as the *Gold member.

You should have been able to guest him into RCC with your C ticket and he should've been able to gain access with his *A G card.

Why would you bother going to RCC when the better much ANA lounge is around the corner?

I guest'd my friend into the UA IFL for a minute and went back to the ANA F lounge within minutes.

However, I don't know about C, but access to the F lounge (ANA or UA) requires an invitation card. On the card, it indicates if you have any guests. When I checked in with my friend, the check in agent wrote 1 guest on the card.

When entering UA IFL, the lounge attendant insisted on taking my invitation card (wanted to save it for ANA). So, maybe thats why your friend was not given access. He should've been given an invitation card at check in.

ANA, however, allowed me in with just my boarding pass but did ask for my invitation card. When I told her UA took it, she told me it wasn't a problem. @:-)
