Earning Status in 2 FF Programs

Hello,

I searched and could not find an answer to my hypothetical scenario. Additionally, I'm not sure that this might belong in the LH forum.

I could be doing a significant amount of travel to Asia in a few months. I currently have status with UA. The destinations will most likely be serviced by LH and not UA metal. Can I enroll in the other FF program and have the miles count in each for status? I reviewed the T&Cs (not closely) and didn't find where they would exclude this.

Thanks for your replies.

The short answer is NO. You can only credit miles flown to one program per flight. There's nothing stopping you from achieving status in multiple programs however by flying the miles.

You can't credit status qualifying miles to 2 airlines. I would look at achieving Star Gold status first before changing FF membership.

Im 75 EQM short of 1P. I have plans to travel later this month to get there.

So, I would have to change programs completely? That isnt what i want to do either.

Oh well.

You don't have to change programs; you can credit the LH flights to UA (assuming the fare class qualifies).

You just have to put your UA MP number on the LH reservation.

Although you can't earn miles and status in two programs for the same flight, isn't there a way that you can earn miles and status in one program while using the elite benefits you've already earned in another program?

(In other words, if you're a 1P with UA but you want to earn miles in M&M, there's a way to enter both numbers in your UA profile so that you can get access to E+ while earning the points in M&M.)

As I recall, there are two fields in the reservation (something like FFA and FFB) that allow this to happen, but most agents are either unaware of how to do so or unwilling to do so.

Big Disclaimer: I'm pulling this half-baked snippet of kinda-information from the far recesses of my mind, so there's a real good chance that it's outdated or just plain wrong.

No need to switch programs entirely. For example, say you booked six flights on LH...you could credit three to UA and three to LH, and you can switch them however you want/need.

Once you hit 1P you *should* receive your UA card that reflects your *G status, which you can then use to access the *A lounges when flying internationally, regardless of which program you are crediting that particular flight's miles to. Does that make sense?

Many folks in the ranks here hold status with multiple programs, so there's no issue with going for that yourself.
