Ticket change inside 24 hours
I goofed when I bought a ticket today - completely forgot that 9/1 is Labor Day. I had a bunch of vouchers to use up from re-faring prior trips, and I had no sooner left the airport than I realized I needed to change my ticket to travel a day later.
If I had booked just on my credit card I'd simply cancel and re-book. Since I used four vouchers and paid only about $60 on my card I assume that isn't an option. Should I be able to call in and change the dates without paying the change fee? If not, what happens in this situation? Thanks in advance! |
Depends who you get. Logic says I can cancel and rebook within 24 hours, so make the process easier and make the change without a charge. An agent can't do it, but a supervisor with a lick of common sense will. I was able to do this once, and was denied another time. Since the vouchers were a form of payment, it should not matter.

Depends on the type of voucher I think - the customer service $ off are good for one shot at ticketing and that's it. If you cancelled the ticket, you'd lose the value. If the voucher was from an old reservation that was cancelled, those funds should be available for re-use.
BTW, I know if I do the ticket online or phone I can cancel within 24 hours, but I'm not sure if that's true for airport transactions as well or not. |
Final result: Ticket changed without fee, just charged the fare difference
I got a very helpful lady who initially thought the best thing would be to find a way to credit everything back and start over, but after talking to a supervisor she couldn't do that (I would have been surprised if she could). I think she tried to get the supervisor to waive the $116 fare difference, which was a nice but unexpected gesture, but I was just happy to not pay the change fee. In case anyone ever has a similar situation, I had used a "customer relations" certificate which I believe was treated as a type A voucher, and three type B vouchers from when I have re-fared. The type of vouchers used didn't seem to make any difference. |
I experienced some major inconvenience months back when I tried to do something similar.
I had just bought a $1200 nonupgradeable fare using two type B vouchers to pay part of it, and 12 hours later an upgradeable fare for almost the same price came up. I wanted to of course get that upgradeable fare instead. The reservations people insisted 1. that I would have to cancel the ticket using the 24 hour window, no changes were permitted, even though the end result would basically be the same thing if we just made a change. 2. that I could not get the value back for the vouchers I had used, that I would be losing all value. This was very frustrating, and I gave up trying to convince them. I wrote to customer relations showing them my problem, that I had called in the 24 hour window, and that the fare was still available, and asked them to please fix this issue. They helped me change my ticket, but I don't think the process has improved much... |
