Switching Upgrade Type
 

I'm flying to Rome with my wife in June of 09. I'm planning on booking economy now and have the miles to request business class upgrade. I got 1K status and understand I will get the 6 system wides in Feb of 09. At that time, can I change how I "pay" with the upgrade from miles to certs? Does it matter if the upgrade has cleared yet?

Even though it says e500s there's info on swapping between the others as well.
I haven't read through it in a while, but I think the short version is that it's doable but tricky, to avoid losing your place in the UG line or the confirmed UG itself (depending on if it has cleared or not).

I'm sure others will be along with further details. ;)
