If your A319 gets switched to an A320, definately go for the AB seats if you're in row one because I think this is a case where the legroom is a bit more restricted on the CD side....If I'm on an A320 and row 2 is gone, I book row 1 instead of 3 which won't exist if you go back to an A319

Yes, the ex-shuttle 737s and also the Ted 320s.

Oh and to the OP, yes upgrade! I'm with iwebslinger, the answer is always yes, upgrade.

OP Says... I did it - mixed results

Thank you again for all the opinions. I was able to upgrade both of us on the 319, and got row two. (For the sake of this conversation, I dont think it would have been worth it in row one - no legroom. Row 6 or 11 would have been fine, comparatively). And my wife was very happy. She unexpectedly spent the entire night before in an inner city emergency room, so the F seat was very very welcome (she's fine). Big bonus points there!

But there is a catch - my seat was broken. No recline! They gave me a card with a code, and I went online to see what I get. Its a choice of:
1. $50 certificate
2. 10% off of a published fare (with restrictions)
3. 5000 miles
4. one 500-mile upgrade cert.

Now, I am not sure if I should pleade my case to a higher court. I am 1k, with 250,000+ miles in my acct. Most of my expensive flying is paid for by my company, and I can do award travel most of the time for personal, so 1 and 2 are less important. 3 seems so-so.

That leaves us with option 4. Considering that I spent 4 500-milers to get this broken seat, does getting 25% back seem like a fair deal to the FT experts?

Lets hold marital concerns out of the equation for a moment. If the upgraded seat was a comparatively good seat, like on a 757 or 767 or something, then I am sure I wouldnt even think twice, but the A319 -- makes me wonder if that seat is really an upgrade relative to e+ and worth the cost in 500milers or regionals.

What would the FTers do?!?
YES DO IT!

eratosthaenes, I think 5,000 miles seems fair. Ultimately 15,000 miles is worth more than four 500 milers, so in essence you're getting back about half of what you "paid." It's not ideal, but I wouldn't say it's unfair either. Just my two cents...

I agree with Lucky.

F is still F even with no recline.

I dunno, I'd personally rather be in E+ with a functional seat than F with no recline.
