United Airlines will reduce service in Myrtle Beach, going from year-round service to seasonal starting Nov. 2, a company spokesman said today.

United will resume flights on March 29, 2009, United spokesman Jeff Kovick said."I can't say we're surprised by the situation," said Brad Dean, president of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, which lobbies for air service in the Myrtle Beach area. "The rules of the game have changed. It used to be that we just had to focus on filling the airplane. ... But in many instances now, even a full plane doesn't break even."

I was already looking at Thanksgiving, and it was impossible to get there from ORD because the only daily flight left at 8am.

Kalamazoo, Michigan (AZO) and Bloomington, Illinois (BMI) will also lose all service effective November 2, 2008 and both stations will close.
