Upgrade Request Pending
When I went to check my itinerary I saw on the outbound flight from SFO-OGG Upgrade Request Pending. I did not request the upgrade nor did I use milles. It sounds like I have 500 mile upgrade certificates.
Do I have a chance at an operational upgrade since it says Upgrade Request Pending? I am a United General Member. I know that when one upgrades using miles they are deducted right away from the account and can only be done with sufficient miles in the account. I paid a high fare for the ticket and the flight looks full in the Y cabin as of now. Since this flight is busy I guess I have a chance at being upgraded to First Class since it is a Boeing 757 aircraft. Are you familiar as to this Upgrade Pending Request. In my years of travel it sounds like I'm waitlisted for First Class with an upgrade done upon space availability. An agent told me that I would be upgraded 24 hours before the flight if there is space. So should I not check in 24 hours in advance to increase my chance of an upgrade. Do you think this is done based on the fare I paid? |
Is this fare an expensive/flexible full fare ticket? Some (but not all) full fare tickets come with a complementary, space-available upgrade, which works similar to upgrades with e-500s but doesn't require any e-500s.
Because you don't have status, you would clear only 24 hours before the flight (elites clear before), which unfortunately means it is not terribly likely you will clear. If you don't clear at the 24 hour mark you could still clear anytime after all the way to boarding, but again you'll be behind all the elites so your chances are not so good :( . It's probably a good idea to not check-in online in this case (unless you have cleared already), not because if affects your chances, but because depending on when your upgrade clears the GAs may not see that you've been upgraded. If you didn't purchase a ticket which entitles you to a complementary upgrade, then I have no idea what's going on - probably some sort of mistake. |
I thought the complimentary Y/B fare upgrades were only available to UA elites? If that's the case, then I don't think that the OP would be eligible, since he is a GM...

Thanks
It sounds like this is a full-fare flexible ticket so we will see what happens.
Thanks |
Resurrecting an older thread here....
Noticed an upgrade of mine is listed as "pending" versus the typical "waitlisted". This is the first time I've noticed this upgrade status and wondered about the idfference. The fare is not full, I put e500 on an IAD-ATL o/w ticket. Trip is 1/14, so it's one week out. |

You must not upgrade with e-500s outside of 5 days before your flight very often?
