Overhead bin space on CRJ 700

I'm thinking of taking a flight from STL to MHT on a united flight. The flight has a stop in Chicago and both flights use the CRJ 700 airplane. I've never been on this plane before.

How much room do the overhead bins have? I'm an independent videographer and carryon my camera in a Portabrace hardside case. It is the standard size carryon and always fits (wheels first) on other flights that I've taken (American, Frontier, etc). Will I have no problem with this flight?

My location is COS, which is mostly CRJ200, CRJ700 so I know of what I write.

The bins will not accommodate wheels first. You will have to place the roller board side ways, and hope that the height of your carry on does not exceed the inside height of the overhead bin. Standard size carry ons are too big for a CRJ700.

If your item exceeds 14x23x7 inches expect difficulty. And even if you do have a carry on that fits, unless you have status, by the time you board, you'll be out of room.

If you must fly United, fly to BOS instead of MHT and drive. As for STL/ORD, use a flight that uses the Embraer 145 regional jets. My experience with E170s is thsat the bins are roomy. http://www.tomzap.com/embraer145.html says that the E145 bins are roomy. Much more height in the bins than the CRJs. And on the return from ORD, select the Boeing 737 flight.

But given this is your livelihood, and given United's orientation toward regional jets (STL/ORD is 99% RJ service ... ridiculous) you should consider switching to another airline.
