I wonder if UA will match the $100 Antler Fee

All credit to gleff for this one: "Frontier has come up with a new fee increase, to my knowledge unmatched by any other carrier — they’re raising the cost to transport antlers from $75 to $100.

The end is neigh."

They don't need to match it.
They don't accept antlers.

" ANIMAL ANTLERS: NOT ACCEPTED."

That is TOO funny! Great answer, and I was already having fun with this one.

I didn't know it, but I was curious to see if it was in the CoC. Imagine my surprise when I came up with that little gem.

I wonder, though, if UA could begin accepting antlers to generate a revenue stream.

I do see an opportunity for DL to raise its antler fee:
"Antlers may be accepted as checked baggage. These items will not be included in determining the free
baggage allowance and will be subject to a charge of USD80 each way. Antlers must be as free of residue
as possible. The skull must be wrapped and tips protected. Linear dimensions must not exceed 120
inches. Antlers that do not arrive with the passenger will be held at the local baggage service office for pick
up or will be delivered at the passenger’s expense."

UA would probably start charging $100 per antler point.

True hunters only drive to their kill zones anyway.

I am sure now that they see Frontier charging, United will take it off the restricted item list and charge even more.

When I've carried antlers on UA, I've taken them in my carryon. I did once leave a nice big rack that I found out in the wild, because I knew it would not fit in carryon. Would have been most annoyed to have hiked it 4 miles back to camp only to be shown the Contract and told I had to leave them at the airport

Actually, the thread title had me wondering if UA was going to start charging $100 to fly without antlers ($100 Antler Free)!

That's actually news to me. The last time I looked at the CoC regarding antlers, they were accepted for transport on UA, but not from ANC. (The counter used to post a sign saying they were barred). I think the CoC actually specifically mentioned they were not transportable from ANC.

Interesting--there does seem to have been a change in the last year or so. I used archive. org to look at some previous CoCs.

From the February 2007 CoC:
ANIMAL ANTLERS - ACCEPTABLE TO A MAXIMUM SIZE OF 115 LINEAR INCHES.
ANTLERS MUST BE CLEANED AND TIPS MUST BE PROTECTED TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO PERSONNEL AND OTHER BAGGAGE.
USD 200.00 WITHIN THE U.S.A. AND U.S. TO CANADA– MAX. SIZE 115 LINEAR INCHES

Actually, it was more than double until F9 raised their fee (166% more than F9).

I wonder how much they'd set the fee at if they were to decide to resume accepting antlers. $267 would maintain their margin over F9. I mean, if the competition raises their rates, so should UA.

I saw a guy take a full rack of Texas Longhorns as carry-on in IAH last year. He had to gate check it, but he did get it through security somehow.
