Looks like UA is finally changing their min mileage awarded to actual miles for both EQM and RDM. See:

Just got the email on this. I guess this is another "enhancement" they have for us.
Not really happy, but not really upset enough yet to write. Maybe later when I"m fully awake.

yup, just got the email
To ensure that Mileage Plus miles earned toward elite status and award travel on United are aligned with actual miles flown, we are revising our base accrual policy. Beginning July 1, 2008, for flights of less than 500 miles, passengers will earn redeemable miles equal to the actual miles flown. Elite Qualifying Miles (EQM) will also be awarded based on actual miles. Elite Qualifying Segments (EQS) are not affected.
This new mileage accrual structure will apply to travel on or after July 1, 2008, regardless of when the travel was ticketed. Flights of less than 500 miles flown on or before June 30, 2008, will accrue Mileage Plus miles under the previous policy of a minimum mileage accrual per individual segment flown.

Totally weak, that was the only benefit I enjoyed doing the BOS/IAD run, then again not missing on a ton of miles.

Guess my 84 mile SBN-ORD jaunts (which are frequently delayed/canceled) will be even less desirable to book through UA. Better to connect through CLE, DTW, ATL, MSP or anywhere really.
Glad I status matched to Plat on CO earlier this year.

In 2006, I got a ton of EQMs flying ORD-MKE and back. I must have had 30 flights between ORD and MKE. This was one of the cool things about United and MP - the 500 mile minimum.
maybe even a little

Wow.
So dumb, so short sighted.
In short, no surprises here.

So many words that come to mind, none of which I can post on a forum like this. I'm really not loving UA right now...
Edit: You know something, United. No sweat. When you try to get creative I'm always one step ahead of you. I'm relieved now, whew.

Wow. I'm always flying out of Charlottesville, VA (CHO) about 89 miles south of IAD. Despite the 2 hour wait for my puddle-jumper and the increase in price by $200-$300 (which my work paid), I always took this flight to get the extra 500 EQMs each way.
For 89 miles, I'd rather just drive the 2 hours to IAD instead of waiting for hours in terminal A.
I guess it saves my company money and takes revenue away from UA.
