The FA can make all the difference!
UA894, SFO-DEN, 3/16/08. Probably 85% full 757; my brother & I are in 14D & 14E, with some other guy in 14F. Behind us is the exit row, with just one person at the aisle. So the FA, Kristin or Kirstin, not sure which, suggests that one of us might want to move back to the exit row to have a bit more room. She does this in a couple of rows, basically giving everyone possible an empty middle seat. (Edited to add that her actions were actually limited to the E+ section of the cabin. In fact, I would say that UA is paying more attention to those in E+ than those behind, for good and bad. Just thought I'd better make it clear, in light of many other threads, that there was no E+ poaching going on).
Now sure, the person who had the row all to him or herself might have rather had it stay that way, but overall I thought that was nicely pro-active of the FA, looking out for her charges. She was always smiling and looked to be enjoying herself, and it absolutely made a difference in the atmosphere. Great pilot & 2nd seat as well, with friendly announcements now & then, and y'know, the way in which the Captain makes an announcement to stay seated in turbulence etc makes all the difference in whether people actually pay attention or not. Even keeping us informed as to why we had to wait in the penalty box for a few minutes (a problem with the computer that was calculating the total weight of our baggage)... everything added up to a great flight. ^ Actually, all three of my segments today were great. SFO-DEN-ORD-MKE. I kept wondering when the "I'd be more comfortable on an old bus than sitting in this plane" thing would kick in, but it never got the chance. Now, one person who probably didn't have such a great day... while standing in line at security, I couldn't help but overhear a 40-ish woman telling her mom, and this is the exact quote, "No, I'm not going to take you to the hospital just because your pacemaker stopped working!" |
Glad to hear that you had a good day of travel Mike, our patron saint of 2Ps and all that is semi-holy :) An uneventful trip is a good trip.
