Spread of Elites in the UA Forum

I've noticed that a vast majority of posters on the forum have stated their elite status. And a good majority of that majority are 1Ks.

Is this an accurate representation of the actual spread of 1Ks to other elite levels and other non-members and GMs? Or do we just have a lot of 1K FTers and theres no correlation?

I think we have a disproportionate number of 1K's since those of us that are 1K do a lot of flying, and therefore often have a bigger interest/more experience flying, and therefore greater need to share.

lucky9876coins is correct as usual. There are more GMs than 2Ps, more 2Ps than 1Ps, more 1Ps then 1Ks, more 1Ks than GS.

But 1Ks fly the most (some GSes are 1Ks; others don't fly enough to be 1K but are comped for marketing purposes). So 1Ks would have the greatest interest in FT. And many of them are the most knowledgeable and post, rather than lurk, on these boards. Plus some of us don't have a life outside of flying, and FT is something we do while waiting for our flights.

I likely never would have gotten beyond 1P (or even aspired to do so) without FT. I didn't know the benefits or value of the higher elite status, or that I could even do that much travel each year. Heck, I was so very happy (and clueless) the couple of years I was 2P. Today, that level just wouldn't cut it for me - I'm totally spoiled

Not to mention that a lot of us 1Ks, EXPs, ST Plats and others once started off here with Silver and/or no status. FT does that to you

I was 2P when I was introduced to FT, and I just knew I would never make 1K...

Precisely what I was just thinking.

Made 1P for the first time in December, originally assumed I'd never get to that level again. Have now decided 1P is definitely doable, but still in the "will never make 1K" mindset. Guess it's a gradual evolution.

True, but it also works in reverse. I became 1K after being a FT'er and being tired of being 3rd tier (lowly 2P). I daresay I'm not the only such 1K.

Dude, you're in DEN: DEN-IAD-FRA/MUC-IAD-DEN, or add GER-ORD-IAD-DEN. 4x/year and that's either at or close to 50,000 miles. Cheap tix can be had Nov - Feb.

Well, FT certainly does give you higher aspirations, that's for sure. I became 2P just last year (just about the time I discovered FT on my own). Now I want 1K... but I will be happy if I make 1P this year (I was within less than 10K miles on December 30)

Maybe 1K will follow someday. As someone who doesn't travel for work (just leisure)... it will take some dedication.

FT = Distorted Perception

As many have stated above, 1K's are addicted to FT and use it to ease travel for themselves. The porportion of 1K users on FT is probably not consistent with the overall population of Mileage Plus Members.

Real World - On more than one occasion on UA Main Line in or out of DSM(small market), FA has told me that I am the only 1k on the plane.
