I submitted feedback on United.com as I wanted to understand why the pricing is that way. Here is the exchange:

Hi, I have been a United customer for many years, qualifying for premier
and premier exec that last few. I can guarantee without a doubt that due
to United's decision to double and triple prices for the SNA-SFO route,
I will not qualify this year. Last year I flew over 60 segments on
United and 0 on Southwest. This year I've already flown 6 SW segments
and only 2 (efare) on United. It is not my preference but due to the
ridiculous price increase, I have no choice. I know I do not stand alone
here.

Response:

Dear Mr. _______,

I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy with United.

Mr. _____ I regret that you are dissatisfied with the United policy for
the change prices for the route from Orange County to San Francisco. We
recognize we have many complicated rules and processes. We agree some
are difficult to understand, and we often review our policies.

Further, please know that when you make a reservation with United, you
receive the lowest fare available at that moment. Once you pay for your
ticket, your fare is protected from any fare increase. However, if your
specific fare class decreases in price, you may be eligible for a
refund. If your ticketed itinerary does qualify for a reduced fare, you
must receive a reissued ticket and apply for a refund before you start
your travels. Your understanding is appreciated.

As you are a Premier Executive member of our Mileage Plus program, your
business and good will are especially important to United Airlines. It
is always a privilege to serve you.

and the followup exchange:

Thanks for the reply. I'd like to know why United is competitive in
the LAX to SFO and SAN to SFO routes, but not for the SNA to SFO or ONT
to SFO? It is unfortunate that I will be doing 90% of my flying this
year with another airline.

Response:

Dear Mr. ____,

I appreciate your valuable comments on our service.

Mr. ____, I am extremely sorry for any inconvenience this has caused to
you. Please allow me to provide some information about our route
structures prices. Basically, this is what happens. Domestic and
international route structure teams regularly analyze scheduling
commitments with these questions in mind: Are we using prime resources
effectively?

If the route structure and scheduling teams determine that revised price
structure does provide greater opportunities for airplanes, crews, and
United's in this route structure, they make the required changes. For
our customers' benefit, United needs to work efficiently and
cost-effectively, and remain competitive as well. Your understanding is
appreciated.

As you are a Premier Executive member of our Mileage Plus program, your
business and good will are especially important to United Airlines.
From what you describe, we failed to meet your expectations for
providing good service. Your feedback is important to us and in fact,
helps us identify our shortcomings and gives us an opportunity to make
service improvements. Be assured that your comments will be included in
a report to the route structure management team for internal use.

We appreciate your business and hope you will give us a future
opportunity to restore your confidence in our products and services.

Regards,
United Airlines Customer Relations
