fare class "E" on booking?
I booked RDU-IAD-SFO-IAD-RDU and it came up as booked in "E" -- which according to my (possibly old?) notes is the "1k only economy ticket".... but this is a paid itinerary for sure... so I'm trying to figure out where the "E" came from and what upgrades it is(not) eligible for... anyone know?
I booked it via Amex as a refundable fare, but not sure what upgrades and or EQM bonuses it qualifies for. Help? |
E and U are fare classes that were introduced with TED, but have spread to mainline aircraft as well. They are valid, resonably high, Coach fares.
No EQM bonus, and no comp upgrade. It's upgradeable with e-500s and CR-1s just like all published other domestic fare classes. |
just asked the other day. http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=780862
IME, it is a last minute non-refundable fare, and mine was upgradeable. (of course this is not to be confused with e-fares). |
From the FT UA FAQs - United Booking Codes (three abreviations in arow:D)
E = 'Ted' and some low web/discount fares from early 2005. (Was 1K coach award to early 2004) U = Showed up Nov/03 as booking class for "TED" also in mid 2005 a high level mainline class! |
I also was given an E class fare recently when buying a one way IAD to New York on the morning of travel. I thought for sure it would've been a Y ticket, with extras bonus miles, etc. Not that it's very important, but I had never heard of E class before.

I just called reservations -- since $1300 for a non-refundable fare just didn't sound *quite* right... ;-)
At least in my particular case, "E" is a fully-refundable fare with some restrictions. In the "fare hierarchy" it sits between "H" and "M". The full fare code is EBIZX if anyone cares (courtesy of expertflyer.com)... I was told by the res agent that there were no EQM bonuses, but it was eligible for upgrades with miles/CR1/SWU. Anyway... it's a data point. |

This information is well out-of-date.
But unlike ljwobker, but mine was non-refundable. But YMMV |
