Expert mode
Quote from the FAQ:
Tip #2 Setting "expert" mode on united.com: 1. Go to united.com homepage 2. From the "Planning Travel" pull-down menu select "Update Profile" 3. Log in. 4. Click on "All Preferences" 5. In the new page scroll down to "Display Preferences" 6. Under "Availability Format," change your setting to "expert" 7. Save your changes 8. Congratulations. You can now see availability by booking code. The above FAQ quote doesn't work, since there is no "Update Profile" bit in the "Planning Travel" pull-down menu. Additionally, there are no options in the "My profile" link which allow you to set your Display Preference to Expert Mode. Am I missing something painfully obvious? Thanks. |
I just managed to do this (tho I don't seem to be seeing the effects at the UAL site). Log in to your MP account, then it's under Home>My profile>My travel preferences.
In the drop down box under "Display Preferences", you'll find what you're looking for. Jonathan |
Go to the My Profile link at the very top of the united.com homepage (it's next to Worldwide Sites and Customer Service).
Once you log in to My Profile, the settings you want to change are under the Travel Preferences section. Specifically, it's under the Display Preferences subsection, where you can change Availability Format (Expert if you want to see each availability bucket), City/Airport Code Format (Expert if you want to see only 3-letter codes in search results), Airline Equipment Display Format (Expert if you want to see only the short version of aircraft, e.g.: 744 instead of Boeing 747-400), etc. |
Got it. Thank you, and sorry for being an idiot.

I checked my profile and found that it is still set to Expert but I can't see the fare buckets. Haven't been able to for a while. Any ideas or suggestions?

Yes, log-in first (you can do that on the homepage), and then do a flight search. Your preferences won't be reflected unless you are logged in.
I was logged in, my preferences say Expert, and I still can not see the buckets. |

Are you mousing over/hovering your cursor over the Flight Details link when looking at results?
New info for me. However, I liked it better when the bucket availability was on view for all the flights shown on the screen. Made it easier to scan for the availability. This way is slower and not at all user friendly. Thanks. |

With the change of look to the UA member information, I can no longer locate the appropriate "Planning Travel, Update Profile, All Preferences" menus to make the changes to get to Expert Mode. Can someone please post how this can now be done with the new set-up?
Then select: Display preferences Then select: Availability format Then select: An expert |
Hey, anyone having this issue?
In expert mode as late as last week I was still able to see XY NF etc buckets. But now only paid fare classes, did something change? |
Works fine for me. You are doing an award search, right?
