What about your checked baggage? You wouldn't be able to claim it at LAX I don't think.

the PHX flight is UA 6522 (UE skywest) which i have to admit i thought left later in the day necessitating me to recheck my bags.

damn the small font...now i see the flight really leaves LAX at 1:01PM

i guess i have 24hrs to cancel....input please oh experienced UA FTers?

Isn't there a later PHX flight?

Or, have you considered sending your bag FedEx Ground for about $20?

I've done this before and just have the luggage "stopped" in the city I "need" it in. If asked, just explain there are items needed for a brief meeting which cannot be carried on and must be checked. :)

I like Colin's story too... :)

Last time I did this (stopped luggage at an intermediate point), it took the agent around 20 seconds (on the computer) to make it happen and I was already airside. They retagged the bag...

I would be very careful about what's said here. Don't want to alarm the agents.

"I have a bunch of photocopies for a meeting that I don't want to lug with me through the airport" is much better than "there are items needed for a brief meeting which cannot be carried on and must be checked." ;)

Since my wife is a hair stylist, it's containers of product which exceed the liquid carry-on requirements. I'm only specific if asked. Learned that years ago dealing with cops ;) Yes, I have the containers :D

great minds think alike @:-)

thinking i inadvertently picked the wrong flt combo, i checked ua.com to see if i could've picked a later PHX flight but they are all $500+ so my anticipated long layover is out

speaking of .bomb, it actually worked in my favor this time, i found the PHX connection via ITA but it didn't pull up the low fare, only the $500+ ones.

i then did a multi city on ua.com and voila there was the $149 baby

i've already checked and it looks like there's a FedEX and USPS both open on Sat very close to LAX.

that's what i'll probably do as i have plenty of layover time. if anyone has reason for me to pick one over the other, please advise.

fwiw, it seems that at least 1 luggage forwarding service (Luggage Express) offers a free bag shipment if you're a CitiAA card holder (of course i just recently canceled my card ....)

many many thanks again
