How do I book class "Y" ?

I've got to book some flights between ORD and IND.
Back when I was booking between ORD and JAX, I saw that one of my bookings went into the UAL system as booking class "Y", and I got a 1.5% segment bonus.

So, I'd like to get that bonus on my trips to IND, also.
But, when I book online, I see I can select "economy", and "refundable economy". I thot booking Refundable Economy would give me the booking class Y, that I was after, but it doesn't.

Does anyone know how I book class Y, online?
FYI: Class Y, is also known as "Full Fare Economy", I believe.

If you booked Full Fare Economy and got a B fare you would also get the bonus.
Welcome to FT. :)

If you go the upgrade drop down menu, and select "Miles YB", that should help.

That should work. It will show Y and B fares, both of which will give you the segment and EQM bonus.

However, be prepared to pay a LOT more than regular economy fares, and probably more than discount First class..

Interesting. When I got the "Y" bonus, when flying to JAX, I did nothing special...and my fare was no higher than the standard "U" booking class. I'm not even sure why I got the "Y" booking class the first time. But, the fare was no higher, that I recall....if it was...just a little.

Were you rebooked on an earlier/later flight? That usually explains it.

U is a very, very high fare as well. Higher than B in some markets. If I were you, and you're paying this kind of fare...well let me give you an example.

ORD-IND, First Class is $432++ round-trip, which incldes 150% EQMs, which you want, and also 150% RDMs.

A B fare, the cheapest coach fare to get your EQM bonus, is $1238++ round-trip, and the cheapest Y fare is $1438.00 round-trip.

Let's see...First for $432, or Coach for $1438, that's a toughie.

But that $432 fare is just a QUP, right? That's just a Q fare with a free upgrade. That is NOT a First Class fare.

Fare basis code:
QUA7UPN
Booking class: A
First

It's a QUP. But it still books in A, so the OP gets the 150% he's looking for

A QUP is not an economy fare with a free upgrade, it books into A and is therefore a First Class booking. Fare basis code is not necessarily related at all to booking class. This misconception seems never to end...
