Actually, based on reports here, they should be able to earn miles for that seat separate (like if one had a cello or something)... but it has to be separate accounts.

Yeah, but if you can afford a seat for your cello, it's all about the EQMs, and you're not going to be able to combine your cello's EQMs with your own when you're trying to qualify for 1K.

... which is why I said separate accounts...?

We can argue about this, but I think we agree, so eventually one of us (probably me) will look pretty silly. :D

My only point, badly made, was to reinforce something someone had said previously in the thread. If they allowed you to accrue the EQMs (not just RDMs) from the extra seat to an account of your choosing, it might be a popular program.

Buying an extra seat

I have a question on buying an extra seat...

How does that guarantee you a seat next to you? If the flight is oversold, wouldn't they bump an "empty seat" instead of a passanger they have to rebook on a future flight?

I would assume they would refund they purchase price of the seat, plus denied boarding compensation, but the seat would still be taken by another passenger.

Am I wrong? Can I be bumped, but not someone else's "extra seat"?

Well, before anyone gets bumped involunatarily, including an extra seat, they would have to seek volunteers, and chances are they will get enough of them with whatever offer they make.
