Priority tag only for using that certain miles program

I was travelling from LAX to SVG via ORD and FRA on Sunday with UA.
Whilst checking in I asked the agent if he could put on a priority tag since I was a Star gold with SAS. No sir I cannot, was the reply.
He could only put it on if I was getting points on my SK card.
Nevermind I said....I want it on MP.

Is this true and correct what he did? Or was he just in a bad mood?

Well...to be true, I think he was in a bad mood because he SSSS me.:td:
And to comment that....the TSA were very kind. They patted me down......looked at me and gave me my bag without even opening it. Have a great trip and that`s it.:)

Interesting, so they basically said your status has to be in the computer to allow for priority tagging. This might actually be true and made worse by the new priority tags which include priority info actually printed onto the tag.

I'm not sure that I disagree with the agent in this case.

My guess would be that he didn't know you were Star Gold when you asked, as the PNR may have only showed your 2P status if you were crediting to MP instead of SAS.

I believe you were technically entitled to the tag, as a Star Gold customer, but you won't automatically get one if that isn't in your PNR. Did he still refuse once you showed him your SAS card?

I showed him my SAS card and asked him nicely.
Sorry sir was the reply. If you want to use your SAS card, only then can I put the priority tag on.

Oh well, nevermind I thought.

I guess the good thing is that your bags probably came out QUICKER without the tags, as often seems to be the case!

That's not right... you're entitled to the benefit of earned status, regardless of how you choose to credit future miles.

If you are a member of multiple *A programs (e.g. I am a member of both MP and M/M) your status for a given flight is the status on the program on which you are earning miles on that flight. So I think the agent was right.

Couldn't the OP have put in his SK *G number during baggage checkin and then changed it back to UA at the gate or in the RCC?

Yes. Luckily, the priority tags mean nothing on the vast majority of flights.

Sure they do. They say, "Break me first."

No, TSA grunts can't read anyway.
