HP Upgrade with e500's

Is it possible to upgrade America West flight using any UA instrument, like e500's? Is there any advantage of *G on HP?

You can't use UA e500s. You can buy HP/US 500s, but it is not worth it. Better to just buy up if available at the 30hr window and/or at check-in and/or the gate.

As a *G on US you get priority boarding and access to some preferred seats (aisles up front, etc.).

Nope, not with UA upgrade instruments. You can buy four US 500'ers for $200, which is about as good as it gets with them. Also, you get F check-in and should get priority boarding.

Thanks!

There is no longer any such thing as a US Airways e500. You'll have to try and buy-up at check in or at the gate.

If you have any orphan US/HP miles around, it's 10K to upgrade one-way. F's not much on US/HP, but it beats E- seats.

I did this recently to CUN (at the 15K level) and because I used miles from my US I account, I had to earn US miles for it rather than UA miles (though my wife, who was also upgraded, was able to earn UA miles on the upgraded ticket).
