If you had some 2006 United Systemwide upgrades in your account in January 2007 and were on an upgraded flight that month you might have lost an SWU by a glitch described in:

Welcome to FlyerTalk.

I used the last of my 2006 SWUs in January and, fortunately, they were taken correctly. I hope your situation is resolved to your satisfaction.

I've had United pull the wrong upgrades before. One phone call cleared it up in under a minute.

Unless you are micromanaging your account you wouldn't even notice... I am sure that there is a bunch of travelers which lost out on this one.

Why wouldn't United fix this obviously systematic mistake?

It's like a bank account. If you care about it, you need to monitor it. If you don't, you really can't complain.
