hardest flight to upgrade?

I imagine the hardest flights to upgrade are transcon p.s. and Hawaii, maybe LHR, SYD, HKG too - any surprises out there?

Actually you're pretty off with a couple of those. LHR tends to be historically easy to upgrade, at least off the east coast and to a lesser extent Chicago. p.s. very much depends on the instrument and flight, but I wouldn't say it was that difficult, relatively speaking. Even Sydney depends on the day, some days you can have empty flights. Look at something like ORD-HKG, however, or PEK or PVG for the matter, now those are difficult to upgrade. SFO-LHR is also not easy. Oh, and Hawaii tends to be very easy because of the tiny number of people buying premium fares and the pretty big domestic F cabins.

I only speak from experience as a lowly 2P on some of those routes . . .

The hardest flight to upgrade is the one on which you didn't clear the waitlist. :)

This largely depends on season and aircraft type.

I would say, though, that SFO-HKG always seems to be a tough one to upgrade.

I've heard that a lot here, but I got 3 upgrades of 3 attempts on that route, all D->NF. One was within a week of departure and NF space was available.

Also, with the additonal (3 times weekly?) frequency, hopefully the extra capacity will make it easier to upgrade on that route.

I have sweated out the SYD flights much more though. It seems that the ex-USA flights clear a lot later than the ex-SYD flights. Maybe because of the USA misconnects clearing the C/F cabin, or maybe because most of the last minute purchases ex-SYD go to QF. Not sure...

Airbii tend to be hard to upgrade for me and I generally don't fly on 737s. ;)

I only use confirmed upgrades for PS flights. There is no way I'm doing a transcon in Y. ;) ;)

Domestic-only travel for me though.

UA932 IAD-FRA - it always seems full in C D and Z.....

It may be better to ask which is the 'easiest' flight to upgrade. There aren't many but JFK-LHR and v.v. is probably the best for international. Unfortunately that will be going away next month. Most TPAC and the ex-FRA flights are tough, as are SFO-LHR, IAD-ZRH (ever since the start of the LX codeshares) in my experience.

Domestically, as a lowly 2P I usually have my upgrades clear on 757s but rarely on A319/320s. Those extra seats make all the difference in the world! :)

SFO-IAD and vice versa. I consider myself lucky if I get an E+ seat on these flights. Apparently there are an abundant number of paid F and UGS/1Ks that frequent this route.

Easiest flight to upgrade has to be HKG-SIN.

Sfo-syd

I am leaving this Sunday (10.01), and still waiting for UG to clear (using SWU)...

It's driving me nuts!

I will have to second this. I had one recently on a 757, and was considering upgrading it, and it was already F1 at more than 2 weeks out on a 757, so I didn't even try to request it.
