Thanksgiving gouging?

Checking on fares JAX-MCI November 22-26. It appears the usual fare-gouging is already happening for thanksgiving.

Pulling up a fare list on UA reveals:

I really want that T fare! It must be to match NW's T-fare, at exactly the same price. Trying to pull up the fare rules or routing for either airline reveals "input criteria could not be found". Doing a search on ITA reveals lowest fare on UA is $599 (total) on a Q fare.

Anyone have an idea of if or when UA will release some of these lower fares? $600 for this itin is quitteeeee pricy

Lightbulb

You mean release seats into the S and T buckets? Who knows. New fares? Maybe after Labor Day. Try award tickets, though, as UA seems to have released some seats on ORD-JAX and IAD-JAX for that holiday

The cheapest fare on WN for those dates is $402. Their cheap fares are gone, too, though they weren't all that cheap: $364 r/t + tax. It doesn't sound like high fares on this route are a strictly UA phenomenon. If you want a real horror story, check fares on US on the 22nd.

With JAX, I've found HP to be the least expensive *A, FWIW.

I see that there's another insomniac in LA.

I checked the US website, which includes HP flights now. Much to my surprise, it actually worked!

Yep, just (over an hour and a half ago ) got home from your zip code

In re: the US/HP website, it works, but it lacks the fare selection mechanism the old US website had. I'm still annoyed by that.

I don't think this is unique to UA. I need to book a trip departing the Saturday before Thanksgiving and returning the Saturday after, and the fares are pricey on everyone...with JetBlue being higher than anyone else from the DC area.

Past experience tells me they'll open up some lower fare buckets after Labor Day, so I'll wait and see.

I looked at coach fares from the Washington area to SJC and they were in the high $300s, which seem reasonable. I then looked at first class fares, which were fairly high--$1700ish from IAD and DCA. But there is a BWI-SJC QUP fare of $1005 all-in, which was actually a bit cheaper than I expected. BWI is a little inconvenient, but I booked that ticket anyway.

This really should be no suprise. They will not have a problem selling tickets at these prices. Simple supply and demand.

This is why I booked my saver award several months ago.

RE:thanksgiving fares

I don't know if this will help on your routing, but I always fly early Thanksgiving morning internationally. The fares drop for the day itself(I come back a week later) and often the loads are quite light, since everyone has been fighting for seats the two days previous and for the Mon/Tues after.

Yep.

$570 all-in to LHR for Turkey Day or $604 all-in to Dublin. Leaving 11/22 (also available on 11/23) and coming back 11/26.

Booking WAS-LHR-DUB-LHR-WAS for a nice weekend in the Emerald Isle. My first time there. ^
