and for 75,000 each way you can get a free ticket with *A awards....

The calculator page is appalingly written - it says in small print half way down the page that the miles listed are per person per segment, but it doesn't say that anywhere near the miles figure itself.

Furthermore, one writer above gave 40,000 miles for SYD-LHR, another 70,000 and yet I see on the calculator 30,000 (per segment).

I wonder what chance there is that you could request one of these upgrades and have it actually cost the same miles as the calculator predicted?

Yes. But I checked SYD-LHR and didn't find any. Since it is by flight segment, direct flights would be a better deal as they count as one segment.

I am sure that SQ or TG has a follow-through flight number from OZ to Europe. By doing that, the system should recognize it as one segment - SQ 325 from SIN to JFK via FRA should be considered one segment in this case.

I'm almost sure they don't.

SQ 25 is the flight from JFK to SIN, SQ 26 is SIN-JFK. 325 is the second FRA-SIN flight.

SQ or TG cannot have through flight number unless they have traffic rights from Oz to Europe. They don't.

SQ25/SQ26 via FRA works because SQ has traffic rights for SIN-FRA, SIN-JFK and FRA-JFK.

Y & B

Am I the only person who is bummed about the full fare coach thing?
Doing some quick runs it seems it is normally comparable in price to just buy the biz ticket, then a full-fare economy class.
I know that UA are doing this to win favor with the business travellers, but still dissapointing for me

Best you can do is 2 flight numbers, by many ways (via VIE or via AKL probably best since 1 upgrade gets almost the whole way there).

OS2 to VIE and then any flight VIE-LHR, or

any flight to AKL and then NZ2 to LHR, or

NZ7104 or NZ7118 or UA840 to LAX and then either NZ2 or UAxxx to LHR, or

UA840 to JFK and then UAxxx to LHR, or

NZ7004 or UA870 to SFO and then UAxxx to LHR, or

SQ via SIN, or

TG via BKK

That pretty much reflects what I've been told. The other *A partners are being worked on (no solid info on dates)
