Where is 9B on a 744?

United.bomb says I'm in 9B in "Business" on a 744 IAD-SFO but SeatGuru doesn't show a row 9, and I left my united seatchart card thing at home. Is this on the upper deck, or am I in the peanut gallery, or did they switch planes on me? Thanks!

There is no 9B on 744. Probably a plane swap...sounds like it could be a 777.

Thanks. I guess the good news is if it's a 777 it's a 3-class.

Not necessarily. There are 2-class 777s. ;)

You may want to post your flight & the date...maybe one of the resident UA FTers can find out more for you.

But there is no row 9 on the domestic 777s.

You are right. More info and maybe someone can give more detailed results to the OP.

Given the IAD-SFO routing, my money is on a swap to a 3-class 763. 9B would be a Business seat on that plane.

It's been a long, long time since I've seen a 3-class 777 on this route...

If it is a 763 and if you travel alone I would swap to a C or D seat. The 763 has 2 - 2 - 2 configuration and in C or D nobody will bother you when they get up and you can get up any time.

I believe #950 is going to a 3 class 777 this month. At least it better cause I'm on it.

Here's the schedule for UA 950 SFO-IAD:

through July 18: 744
July 19-21: 777 3-class
July 22-30: 763 3-class
July 31 - September 5: 777 3-class

They have been running 744's on this route lately (a 7:54 am flight out of SFO and back from IAD at 5:30).

One word of caution--when I was booking a flight recently I noticed the seating chart in both F and C showed some "phantom" seats (seats that I know couldn't possibly exist on this plane).

That said, I recall seeing that they were switching this flight to a 3 class 777 later this summer, so I would probably call United to see what is up so you don't have any surprises when you get on board.

Called United and the CSR said, "you have 9B."
I said okay, "What kind of aircraft is it?"
"a 747-400."
"But there is no 9B on a 747..."
<without pause>"Hey, you're right! Hmm, how did that happen?"
"I don't know.. are you sure it's a 747?"
"Yes that's what it says right here..."
"Okay then can I have a seat that exists?"

And she got me one upstairs, so I'm happy. But she couldn't explain how I'd been assigned one that didn't exist. Although I do give her credit that right away she knew there was no 9B on that aircraft.

This is 915 on Jul 14th.

Wow, 777 only for 3 days  I wonder what the chances are that it will be swapped out for a 747/767Dom/767Intl/757 or heavens forbid a Ted 320

hmm.....so here is what sabre says about the seat map. Sorry, formatting is a bit off but 9B exists. Not sure if I can paste a screen shot here or not.

This is 915 on Jul 14th.

Despite what United Skies reported, UA915 IAD-SFO on 14Jul is a B777-200 XC (3 class config).

Also, Business Class in the 777 XC is rows 8-9 and 11-15. Upper Deck on the 747-400 is rows 11-18. In case there are still inconsistencies in the seat maps, make sure you aren't assigned row 16-18, lest you find yourself seated in Economy Plus...
