UA Web booking may default elites to E- if no seats selected

For the first time in a long while, I forgot to select seats when completing a web coach booking. Did have my 1K# inputted. United.com assigned me 2C for my TED flight but 24D for my mainline 757. Went into the seat map for the 757 and found that all E+ exit row seats were available but no other E+ aisles; but many E+ window seats were available. Then I recalled that my profile had a preference for aisle seats. Apparently what united.com does in such cases is go to the first aisle seat available, even if well into E- and assign it, though there are non-exit row E+ window seats. I assume it did not default to exit rows but was surprised it did not offer an E+ window over an E- aisle.
