How are US codeshares decided?

Who/what decides what flights of US (and soon HP) are codeshared with UA flight numbers? (And what's the criteria, if known?)

And, for the reverse? (i.e. UA metal with a US codeshared flight number)

It'd make my life a good bit easier if certain 'express' flights on both carriers were shared. Say for example you want to go between Fargo (UA Express) and New Haven (US Express) or Flagstaff (HP Express, soon to be US Express) and Fargo (UA Express). Right now you can't book either of those through UA's web site nor through US's web site as far as I can tell.

Insight, tricks, hints, etc. are appreciated! I assume it's not really worth writing a letter saying "Please code share route XXX-YYY" (unless you were a company with multiple UGS based in one of these small places.)

You should be able to book the trip through UA's web site, at least (I just checked it, but not US's). Be sure to select More Search Options and specify 2+ connections, as it's an impossible route for just one. You'll probably need to specify both airlines to search on, as well.

For a random date in the future, the routine returned options with both UA and US flight numbers for the ORD-PHL-ORD legs, regardless of actual operator.

You should be able to book any flight by using the "More search option" link and than make sure US is choosen in the "Airlines" section.

The airlines' respective marketing departments.

However, if one connection requires a non-codeshared UA flight and the other a non-codeshared US flight, there's not going to be a single fare published on the route, and thus you'll end up with a pricey back-to-back combination of two fares.

There are several routes US flies that are in UA's routing rules, but UA doesn't codeshare, that would make my UX flight experiences much more rewarding (I hate getting 500 miles for $300+ ... if they codeshared existing US flights, I could at least connect and earn a few more miles)

And there lies part of the problem, especially as often the 'express' segments alone are quite expensive, but cheap when combined with other segments. e.g. FLG-PHX round trip on US express is much more expansive than FLG to many other places (but transferring in PHX). To stick with the FLG-FAR example, you have to decide whether to break the ticket in PHX (FLG-PHX will be expensive) or DEN (DEN-FAR will be expensive).

Oh well, there are worse conundrums to have...

Another fun thing with US...

From their website
"US Airways currently accepts Dividend Miles account numbers online. We are working on the technology to accept our partner airline numbers. If you would like to accrue miles in a partner airline account please call the Dividend Miles Service Center at 1-800-428-4322 after you have received your confirmation number. We look forward to offering you this service online in the near future."
So if you book online, you can not enter your UA MP number YET....

Fun stuff??
