Big differences between A319 & B737 F-class
Hi!
I'd like to ask you guys a one question. Is there any big differences between A319 and B737(-300/500) in First class? These airplanes have only 8seats in F.... I boarded on B737-300/500 (ex-shuttle), but it sucks.... so please give me some advice!!! Is it worth seating in A319 F?? Thanks, |
There is video entertainment on the A319 but not on 737's so that is one big difference. Row 1 on an ex ....tle 737 is terrible but it's not great on A319's either (though the AB seats are better than CD). For non-....tle 737's, I like the row 1CD seats because there is a generous foot cut out.
I usually take row 2 on either of these planes but I prefer the A319 because it has video. |
It's pretty much the same. There might be a difference in the pitch in the first row. The wall is closer to your knees on some planes than on others.
As for your "is it worth it" question: How long is your flight? How full is Coach? Is there meal service? The value of the paid fare or upgrade increases according the length of the flight. |
It depends on the length of the flight- A319 first class is nothing special, but better than coach, but not worth spending too much to obtain. I believe the A319's are newer than the 737's, and so while the seats may be the same, I liek the A319 much better. Not exactly sure about United, but Air Canada's A319 and A320 make the YUL-LAX trip quite nice.

The A319 has a few extra inches of legroom in Row 1 thanks to the cutouts at the bottom of both bulkheads.

Despite its usual delapidated state of disrepair, the 737 F seats do have greater recline than most A319s. Marginally makes up for lack of IFE.

Thanks, If you're flying PHL-DEN or IAD-DEN it's definitely worth it to sit in F on a 319. On those flights, it's also well worth going for the 319 to get the IFE. You didn't specify the route you were flying and that makes all the difference. |
The good thing about both the 737 and A319 is that due to the small number of F pax (8) you receive much more personalized service that the 757 with 24 pax in F, the 767 with 34 F pax or the 777 with 36 F pax.

The 319's also have a wider cabin, meaning a more "open feel" to the F cabin, even though the seats are the same size. To me, this makes a big difference. The 319 cabin feels bright and airy, while the 737 cabin feels cramped.

Don't forget the A319's have GALLEYS - nice if you're on a dinner flight and want hot meal. The ex-shuttle 733's don't have galleys (the non shuttle 733's do have galleys with ovens) - God help you if you're on one of those ex-shuttle planes during meal times.

I like everything about the 319 better than any UA 737. Newer=nicer interior, better IFE, better galleys (and no chance of a non-galley ex-SHT a/c), better Y seats (newer design and 18" vs 17" width). In fact, except on a packed flight with a COS in the middle next to you, E+ on the Airbus is darn near as roomy as F and very, very comfortable, so upgrading on the 319 isn't nearly as important to me as on the 73's.
