Upgrade Switch
I have currently upgraded an itinerary with United departing in the middle of November. However, I made a mistake and used my confirmed regional upgrades instead of my systemwide upgrades. I want to see if I can make a switch, although the United rep told me that if she did that, it would probably send the seats back into inventory. Any suggestions?

change at check-in

I've done this before at check-in, although I think it depends on the mood of the agent at the ticket counter. I've never had a problem swapping 500's for confirmed and vice-versa, but I'm pretty sure it does place you back in the upgrade queue, even if you've been confirmed. If there's plenty of inventory I'd make the change now, if not - it's probably better to make the change at check in or the RCC...but no guarantees! good luck! |
Once the instrument has been pulled and your upgraded boarding pass has been issued, the agent can't go back and switch instruments.

It can be done, but it requires an experienced agent. Apprently if they don't close the PNR while they downgrade, then reupgrade you, then the upgrade space will not go back into inventory. See this thread for more info. |
