How is this possible

I was trying to purchase FRA - EZE on LH. I saw it on united.bomb for around $1400 (B Class). I tried booking it on the LH website directly it priced out at over $5000, full fare Y. I called them, they told me that they had no B or lower fares for my selected day of travel. I then went back to the UA website and purchased 2 tickets. How can this be?

Is this a codeshare flight? If so, then the different airlines have "control" over the pricing/fare buckets on the seats they "own." They can't cross-sell the other airline's seats.

No It is a LH flight. No code share. Ticket is only on United paper, but it clearly stes the LH flight number. I am really confused

I apologize for bumping this. As it's early morning in Europe, I hope someone will see this and be able to provide an answer. I really don't understand how all of this was possible???????

Depends on the fare basis and the sales restrictions if any. On QF, I see AA/Expedia selling fares to the general public on their website which, according to the fare's sale restrictions, can only be sold IN CONJUNCTION with international travel to Australia on QF/BA/AA.

Availability can be different in the US compared to Europe. The airline can make different availabilities available to customers in different parts of the world.

When you book through the US United website (www.united.com) you get different prices and availability from the German United website (www.united.de) for the same reason.

For another example, British Airways flights are sometime cheaper when you buy them from aa.com, even under the BA flight number.

I know that there are different types of B fares and I could not pull out the fare rules on this, but for a B, that is such a good deal!

It is if it's a roundtrip fare. But based on the OP's post I got the impression it is a one-way FRA-EZE.

When I pulled the fare last night it certainly was for roundtrip!

I recently booked a transcon SJC-ORD-ROC-ORD-SJC. The outbound flight placed me in row 33! Plus, I could not get the desired return flight of ROC-IAD-SJC to get me in earlier next Friday because it was "Sold Out".

Based on this thread I called 1k Res Desk and they happily changed my seat to the bulkhead row on the outbound and and confirmed me for my first choice on the return. There was no price difference. Go figure.

Last night I checked on UA.com again, got the same fare. Than checked on expedia. The same fare showed up on the menu list, but when I selected the flight, it repriced it at over $6,000! I really think something must be up at united.bomb, but in this case to my benifit :)
