Priority baggage to NRT

I may be taking UA's JFK-NRT flight in F -- what are people's experience with priority baggage handling in NRT? I know well that the priority tag is often a joke in N.A. and Europe, but Asian carriers generally do a pretty good job with them. I'll be checking in at JFK, so no connecting flight baggage transfer to deal with.

(And to anticipate the question, it's a RTW ticket and NH has no A, or even F, availability for that date I expect to travel.)

NRT, HKG and SIN are pretty good about sending the Priority bags out first, espceially if yellow First tag is on. If your bag is oversize or oddsize, this may not be the case though. I found BKK to be inconsistent.

They do pay better attention to priority tags in Asia. I made the mistake of not saying something when checking in at LAX last month when the agent missed the priority label on one of our five pieces of luggage.

Sure enough, got to PEK, and the four priority-tagged pieces came out right away, while the fifth piece, without the tag, came out near the end of the line....

By the time I get through customs, my bag has always been waiting (probably a long time). I think this is even the case w/o priority tagging.

Narita is pretty good at sending priority bags first up the conveyor belt. I have a resident alien card for japan and rarely spend more than 5 minutes in immigration; to my amazement my bags are often on the belt waiting right after clearing immigration (and that seems to be true not only for first class luggage but also for priority luggage).

In general the immigration line at narita can be so bad (it's not uncommon to spend 30 minutes waiting in line) for non residents and citizens that all bags sometimes makes it onto the belt before you even get to the customs area.

Better handling IF bag gets to Asia

I travel to Asia with carryon only because of risk of lost bags in the US before bags are loaded. Had my bag lost in JFK once: not again.
