I did just that, combined a visa 1000 miler with 3 500s for a flight. The UA rep told me I couldnt really do so (she even read the condiitions on the back side of the coupon to me). She ask me what MP status I was (breaking 1K really soon) and she said OK

i did just that the other day w/a 1000 mile visa cert and 3 500's for a flt in november. i purchased at sfo (i used vouchers so i had to do it in person) and the agent asked how i was going to support the u/g and i said w/a paper 1000 mile cert and the remainder in 500's (and i showed her the cert) she was able to confirm it on the spot but me being honest, i said thank you but asked "shouldn't it clear based on the 500 miler window?" and she said "paper is paper and that comes first". it didn't sound right but i'm not complaining (tho something tellls me she had it backwards)
