ex-LHR BA/VS battle

I see from the BA and VS boards that both these carriers are launching there september sales tomorrow. Prices look extremely good with most north american routes coming in at £199/299inc tax!

Will UA follow and offer similar sale fares? Im a devoted *A and UA flyer but these fares are hard to beat! I'll hold off to see if UA do something similar. They usually offer good deals this time of year.

Boy, I really hope so! Usually Labor Day has been the time when past fall sale fares have been announced...

and I assume you meant $299+ tax, not "inc tax," right? I'm sure there will be deals, but maybe not THAT good...

Lufthansa has already matched - like $231 LHR-JFK plus tax. Expect UA to follow suit within hours...

I see a fare of GBP235 inc tax for LHR - JFK in November. In September it's 50 quid more.
Is this what you're talking about? It seems to be the same fare that VS and BA have, but it's not that cheap, is it?

The fares aren't THAT cheap, but better than what was published a few days back. UA has not matched yet, but you can book the LH codes on UA metal. Only standby upgrades in that case of course

UA HAS matched, and I think the base-fare of $338 for LON-LAX is pretty decent. The problem is that taxes and (fuel-) surcharges that drive the fare considerably up...this fare ends up being $420 after fuel-addons and plus another $100 for taxes - totals at about $520 after everything has trickled in.

Still a decent fare in my opinion for West Coast ex-Europe, and with some creative routing (like LHR-ORD-EWR-ORD-DEN-LAX or something) you get some 14k miles before any applicable bonusses (or 3.6 miles per status-mile). RDM-miles are even better with bonus applied...

I just repriced two JFK-LHR roundtrips I'd purchased early in August, and they both came out slightly higher (though in one case one leg went from W to V.)

May i ask, how do you create a routing like that? I can only manage to get united.com to give 1 connection eg LHR-SFO-LAX. Even when i select "2+ connections" in the advanced flight search.

Try the Multi-trip search. You could also use a travel agent...
