Excellent point, and an omission on my part. But it's not nearly as user-friendly as, say, AA.com, which let's you see the seat map anytime and switch your seats willy nilly.

But I thought you could not do EasyCheck-in online for international itineraries, only wholly domestic ones.

I could not check in online for my recent PVG-IAD trip. The response was that I had to check in at the airport for an international flight.

Also, my husband had 24,242 miles when he was taking a later PVG-IAD flight. He simply asked at the gate and the agent switched him to E+ as there open seats.

I will have 24, 840 miles when I board IAD FRA (744) in November. Am I correct that 25K allows me to select E+ ? Might they allow E+ if I ask?

May I select E+ for the return when I arrive in FRA?

Don't know if you've already flown the SJC-IAD trip, but if not, and if you have some time flexibility, you might want to consider doing SJC-LAX-IAD instead of the non-stop. That will give you an extra 388 miles (500+2288 instead of 2400), and put you over the top for 2P prior to your IAD-FRA flight, allowing you E+ access in advance, and won't have to worry about asking at the gate.

Just make sure that once you've reached 25K miles, call reservations and have them re-enter your MP number so you're new status is reflected in the PNR.
