Employee Strike Button spotted

Tilton would have had a cardiac event. Yesterday (May3) spotted on the counter at RCC face down momentarily turned up. 4 inch diameter ,across the top"I do not want to go on....(in bold letters across the middle STRIKE) At that moment I'm thinking Great! : somebody who recognizes company suicide! but alas across the bottom "But I will if I have to" What a BUMMER!

When I see that I will whip out my "It's time to book" button just to tweak their noses. :p

I would use my "It's time to fly...on my $200 transcon upgraded to F" button, but I am trying to be kindler and gentler with my inter-personal relationships with UA employees.

Is May 10th still the probable date ? flying back home that day and cannot be late (wife's birthday..)

Where did May 10th come from?

What rating would folks give this threat? Probable? Insignificant?

SEA_Tigger May 4, 2005 6:52 pm

I'm doing SEA-SFO-IAD-SFO-SEA this weekend and SEA-IAD-GSO-IAD-SEA the next.

I expect UA to still be operating at 100% when it comes to labor.

May 10th is when the judge is possibly deciding to cancel some of the pension plans. I have very important flights May 11th and 13th, so I'm really hoping nothing happens. I can't imagine that even if things don't go the way the unions want that they could strike without voting, etc. (unless they've already authorized strike activities)

Liz May 4, 2005 8:12 pm

I'm betting the judge doesn't allow anything to happen.

I'll say it's making me nervous...

I'm headed off to LHR later this month on UA.

Does anyone know what will happen to those of us who have plane tixs if the employees hit the picket line?

Very classy button.

If I were Tilton and saw that button, it'd be very easy to say, "Gosh, I'm sorry you're not happy here. So I'm going to help you out. In the words of the Donald, YOU'RE FIRED!"

Seriously, UA needs to do a major "spring cleaning" of its staff, IMHO.

If they could find cause to fire people, I'm sure UA would be more than willing to do so in many cases... of course, the caliber of person UA could attract to fill jobs thusly vacated might leave something to be desired. :(

In light of this potential strike threat, what are the alternatives for those who would potentially land in the unemployment line? In other words, are the employees better off with UA out of business and liquidated? How much pension would they get with UA liquidated? I have a feeling this is more for posturing than anything else. However, I don't UA management is buying any of it since there are no viable alternatives for its employees. Honestly, I don't think this is a case of well compensated executives squeezing on the poor and vulnerable labor force. This is a matter of survivial for the company and they need to do what's necessary to save the company. I agree with managment that the unions would be better off focusing on how to help turn the company around.

LAX

PS: I am definitely not a member of UA's management team (I sometime wish I am, though, despite of its current finanical foes)!
