ORD-IAH on UX E70
I'm flying from ORD to IAH in a few weeks and noticed UA replaced some of their 737s with UX E70s. Part of me is a bit excited to see what the E70 is like on the inside, but I'm sure the novelty will wear off 5 minutes into the 2.5 hour flight to Houston. I've never been a huge fan of the 737s, but I'd take them over a UX flight any day.
Anyone been on an E70? How is it? http://www.airliners.net/open.file/785954/M/ http://www.airliners.net/open.file/785404/M/ 1Konsultant |
Well I liked the E70
I thought the E70 was a good plane and would welcome it as a replacement for the 737, I like the 2x2 seating in economy. The seats seem as comfortable to me as a 737 seat. I have also upgraded to First and liked the 1A,2A seats by themselves, you get an aisle and a window. Luggage overhead bins are a little small but much better than RJs. I did not get a meal even in first, but this may have been because of duration of flight, did get a snack and good drink service. Only real downside is no IFE of any kind, I am kind of a channel 9 junkie so I did not like that. I did enjoy that it was a very new plane. I think this plane is a plus over the 737 unless you really like the audio on the 737. It is in no way like the RJ hell I have been thru on UX. I find anything over 90 minutes very unpleasant on most RJs. Just my opinion

Does anyone know how many of these are going to be flying around the system? I'd for sure take one over a CRJ/CRJ-700.

The big negatives are that no food is ever served in 1st and the drink service is plastic cup and low end mini bottle wine. (I took a 3+ hour flight to SLC).
Another problem with E70s is that the probability of a mechanical seems to be higher than average compared to mainline. |
I have done a number of trips on the E170 now from SYR & really like it. Seats are comfortable & a feeling (illusion?) of space. Partly because they are all new, I'd take it over an aging 737 anyday.
In economy seat 3C is great with tons of space and feet poking into F. KiwiPanda |
When I was on my trip ORD-IAH and back IN Jan i was on a A320 in First i had meal service. . .BTW uprades to First from ORD-IAH is as easy as 123. infact, i saw open seats in First when i was flying. . i guess not alot of Premiers.... BTW i was a general member back than..i upgraded with 500milers.

I do the Ord-Houston flight at least once a month.
The 170 does have nice seats in F but thats it. No food the FA said she had a Cheese/Fruit snack. It was a bowl full of PFarm crackers, the Cheese you get at the RCC and a few apples...this Snack was for all of F. I had a great flight last time back from Houston in F on a 737..not bad food and a FA coming by with Coffee and after dinner drinks...very professional. I shall miss it. UA going to RJ's is not good. |
Plenty of threads in the old search bucket for this one ... in short, most like the E70 over anything else in the UX fleet. It has E+, F, decent overhead bins (much better than a CRJ, although still small), but has no IFE (yet, perhaps), no meal service, etc.

RJs on mainline routes or liquidation. These can't possibly be the only two options available. |
Love it!
Sure beats any crj any day. 3A/B are great seats. Beware though - the FCC has not certified the aircraft for cell phone use after landing!! ;)

I took the E70 on ORD to IAH last week in F and thought it was great...except for the no food thing. But I wasn't hungry anyway. If you can get seat 1A, its excellent. Just problems with overhead bin space for the F single seats on the left of the plane.
Took the 737 IAH-ORD flight back in F and it was ok as well...same old thing. Nice steak snack though. Was really good. |
Watch out as one of the flights is a CRJ (the 12:30 departure IAH-ORD). The E70 does have that new car smell and feel. It's nice, but the food is missing.

I've enjoyed the E70 as well. The food in F thing bothers me as the plane is equiped with an oven so there's really no reason. Did the IAD-DFW flight and had I flown the 737 I would have had a snack.
I enjoyed it despite the lack of food. As a sidenote, I've been told by some UA friends that this is an easy plane to get an Op up. Just make sure to be at the airport early and ask at the gate advising of premier status. :D |
Has anyone asked an F/A why food isn't served on the E70?
