Amenity Kits are back...sort of...

On IAD->MUC on 2/19 and MUC->IAD on 3/5, I got an amenity kit in a green-and-blue pseudo-canvas bag. The contents were the same as over the past couple years, but it was nice to see something other than "The Sack".
On the whole, this is better than the old fake leatherette stuff they were handing out a number of years back.

Has anybody else noticed this? Is this a relatively recent development, or has this been going on for a while?(This was my first Int'l flight in about 4 or 5 months).

Been around for a while...doesn't seem they have the flossed toothpick anymore (which I really liked).

These newer United First and United Business Amenity Kits debuted back in July of 2004, so they're not really that new to most International frequent flyers of those classes.

In First Class, your bag is designed as a CD case. In Business Class it's the zippered two-tone bag.

If you're a 1K, an article about the newer bags with photos of them, can still be found on the 1K Only Web Site back on Page 5.

Short of flying international F on United, does anyone know where I can get the Nomad lip balm? I tried a Crabtree & Evelyn here in the UK, and they don't stock a lip balm in their Nomad range.

I *loved* those fake leatherette bags. I still have several of them in constant use for computer cables, adapteres and the like.

Last time I was in C (MUC -> IAD) - I was in 9C (mini-cabin) on the 777 and the amenity kit they had put in there was the CD Case one (FC).

It was pretty nice - (Crabtree lotion) - there was 2 on my seat so I kept both.

No wonder United remains in its current financial condition...

Hmph, the CD case would be more cooler if it had more sleeves for CD's (I still use them anyway).

On a related note, one of my Business class bags wasn't two-tone. I noticed this as I stacked 'em all up together. Not an issue at all, but interesting.

Interesting. I mentioned it because I got "The Sack" on my last two Int'l C-class trips last fall.

I also have a gotten a few of the one color Business Class bags. In fact, I have two different solid colors bags.

I've got a couple myself. I don't hate them, it's just that when the dark pastel blue/green two-tone is set next to the burgundy leatherette from the late '90s, the leatherette looks kind of cheap and cheesy. JMO

I was wondering why on the HNL-NRT-BKK and return, flying C, they usually only give me one amenity kit HNL-NRT. Anyone else experience that? Maybe it's just me.

;) That ultra-luxe neoprene crap must be costing them an arm and a leg!

No, they don't give out kits inter-Asia. They used to give out socks (remember those anyone - the turquoise ones?) but not anymore.

I flew NRT/BKK a couple of weeks ago and the FA was handing out these socks and eye masks.
