Odds of standby tomorrow 12/24 ORD-SFO/SNA

Hello all

my 3pm flight ORD-SNA-SFO is confirmed in F using 500 milers

Two days ago I called UA to see if my chances of standby for the non-stop ORD-SFO at 8am, 10am, 12pm were good and the agent says it looks very good.

Today I called and another agent says while F/C is empty (well around 9 seats remaining in each flight), coach is oversold by 30/15/22 respectively. Coach for ORD-SNA is also oversold in the morning.

Now since i am already upgraded, when I standby I have to go back to coach and see if I will clear the waitlist and then upgrade to F/C again. With these numbers, should I even try going to the airport early or just wait it out till 3pm and try the 3pm ORD-SFO nonstop since that looks empty, showing 9 in most fare classes.

Thanks

Things are changing from what you were told. Here's what's on UAL.com as of now:

8am Flight F6 Y0 B0 M0 H0 Q0 V0 W0 S0 T0 K0 L0 G0 A6 E0 U0
10am Flight F2 C3 Y0 B0 M0 H0 Q0 V0 W0 S0 T0 K0 L0 G0 A2 D3 Z3 E0 U0
Noon Flight F2 Y0 B0 M0 H0 Q0 V0 W0 S0 T0 K0 L0 G0 A2 E0 U0

The 10am is a 777 and the other two are 757's.

If you have nothing else to do you could try it, but personally I would do ORD-SNA-SFO rather than possibly sitting around the airport all day or sitting in Y. Plus if your confirmed in F all the way you'll only use 4 500's either way.

But I think it really depends on how bad you'd prefer to get there, over possibly spending all day at the airport, or sitting in Y.

The 3pm to SFO shows:
F6 C4 Y0 B0 M0 H0 Q0 V0 W0 S0 T0 K0 L0 G0 A5 D4 Z4 E0 U0
On a 767. It's doubtful you'll get cleared in time for SFO, since the SFO and SNA flights leave at the same time.

With all the weather problems however it is possible that there are a lot of misconnects and you could be fine.

If you went there for the 8am you'll be absolutely sick of ORD if you don't get out till 3pm.

All five a.m. flights to SFO (7am-2pm) are very, very full.

If you waitlist for them -- then yes, you go back into the coach pool, and then your upgrade eligibility is re-determined.

ORD-SNA flights are also packed as well.

If I were you, I'd sleep in.
