D4X at IAD?

I had a connecting UAX flight at IAD yesterday. When I looked at the departure monitor, it said the gate was D4X. Slightly confused, I walked to the D4 gate and waited there. They were boarding another UAX flight from the D4 gate so I started to wonder if I was at the right place. An UAX employee assured me that I was at the right gate, so I figure it must be a magical gate hidden between two gates like the invisible train platform in the Harry Potter I movie. When it was time to board, the UAX employee opened the emergency eXit door next to the agent counter and directed passengers to walk down the fire-stairs to the plane. I was disappointed that I didn't have to run through the wall to the invisible gate.
So, after spending all that $$$ on building the fancy G concourse bus stop and terminal, the best UAX can do is have people board from the emergency exit? No magical hidden gate at D4? I must say, that's ghetto.

Beleive me, any IAD Warrior would much rather board through D4X - even if it did mean running through a wall - then deal with the Irwin Allen set that is the G Concourse. :D

As for running through the wall to get to your plane--didn't you hear that United is now the official carrier for wizards getting to Hogwarts? :p

Exactly!! I had similar thoughts running through my mind as I read the OP's post.

You should be very, very happy you left from D, even if its via an emergency exit - G is a nightmare. Just check some of the older posts on this board for the many complaints.

Totally agree!

Luckily for me, all the NYC outbound flights have been departing from Gate D on Air Wisconsin.

Unfortunately they go back to the G gates sometimes, particularly when they're late!!

I'm doing this trip weekly with LGA and shoot for the mainline flight in each direction but it doesn't always work out. If I stick it out for another month, I'll have 1K thanks to the double mile promo before an intl itin in November, so feel its worth it for a little longer. Watch me jump on that shuttle come November/December though.
