I was going from ORD to AMS last year and about a week before my flight my seat mysteriously went from 5F (bulkhead) to another row in C. I was ticked off because I specifically chose that seat months in advance. I wanted to get down to the bottom of why they would boot me (1K MM UGS) out of my preferred seat. As you know, there is a record of everything done to a reservation. The CSR found out that it was changed in AMS a week earlier. They actually called and spoke to the person who made the change. It was for a couple travelling with an infant who needed the bulkhead for a bassinet. So yes, they DO bump people out of their seats.

Can anyone confirm that 6H on a 747 old config is one of the eligible seats for a wall mounted bassinet? And what is a wall bassinet like? Thanks.

Not a chance at reservations.
Not a problem at check-in.

I actually argued with reservation that by paying for my infant's seat, I was being penalized, when I could just bring him as a lap child and sit in E+. It didn't fly. At check-in, I got wife, son and neice into E+.

P.S - Having his own seat meant he slept in his carrier, which he seemed to quite enjoy, and when he woke up, I stuffed it with pillows to make it "flatter" inside so he could lay around and play. (4-5 months old).

Personally, I didn't miss not having bulkhead or bassinet.

We have never bought a seat for our 6 month old, but instead, I just ask if there is an extra seat for us to put her and her carrier into (next to us of course) and the majority of the time, the GA says yes and purposely keeps the seat empty for us unless it's absolutely needed by a paying passenger...even when we are in F, there have been MANY times where there has been an extra seat available (especially on the 757s)...so even though I've thought about buying an extra seat, since we usually have an extra seat available anyway, why pay?

Yes - 6AB and 6GH work for the wall mounted bassinets. They're tiny though, so if your kid is much over 6 months to a year, they may not be great for sleeping. They also look like they're military issue, but that's a separate matter :)

Wife and I flew FRA-LAX on the 747 in 32 F/G, there was a mom and infant in 32e, they gave here a floor bassinet, what a joke, the thing looked disgusting, I'd rather wrap my kid up in a bunch of blankets. I thought it was very odd there was no wall bassinet available. But then again I find a lot of things odd about UA.

I've seen a picture that looks like a soft gym/duffel bag. Is that the floor mounted or also the wall mounted one? Or is the wall one more like a typical bassinet with a rigid frame?

If it's really bad I'd rather just get seats I prefer rather than taking 6G/H.

The wall one has a rigid frame. There is a "duffel bag" for use as a floor bassinet. Not something I'd ever use.

The bassinet is not bad, per se - it's really the size you need to be careful about.

Having second thoughts about the bassinet. Don't like the 6H/G seats on the 747 you need to use these in business as much as other options. Kid is 8 months old and 18 lbs. Sleeps well when he sleeps.

Any last minute opinions? Thanks.
