Extremely high prices to asia?

I'm looking to go SAN/LAX-SIN/BKK and can't find anything except mid-1000's for just coach until September! Any ideas when the rates might go down? Even Asiana is over $1000.

You're lucky. I'm looking for HKG in June or July and can't find anything below about $2500 (B fare), even though there is supposed to be some sort of Summer fare sale going on now. The flights list all kinds of availability, and say the Summer fare is available, but price out on the B fare. Another united.com screw up is a disctinct possibility. Anyone else having the same luck?

How long are you wanting to stay in Asia? Most fares still have that 6-day minimum stay rule...

Fare to Asia

United has raised its fares between USA and Asia since the beginning of this year.
I guess it increased more than $200 averagely compared to last year.
It's better not to expect anyfare lower than $1000 on United.
Maybe try Northwest.
It might offer some low fares.

I have scheduled a trip to HKG and SIN this July. I was getting quotes between $1,500 and $2,200 on United.com, Expedia and Orbitz. Then I realized these sites did not allow me to book Q, V and W fares, although they were available (search under expert mode on United.com). In the end, I called my consolidator agent and purchased W fare for less than $1,000. There is no minimum stay requirement for my ticket ( I am staying 2 days in HKG and 3 days in SIN)

Historically, the "cheaper" Asia fares have come out around June or July for travel in October and beyond. You may be out of luck for September travel...

This might be too late for your purposes but I'm pricing fares from HNL to BKK in November and December and I'm getting a fare of $640. Here's the odd thing:

HNL-OSA $1124
HNL-NRT $1117
HNL-HKG $847
HNL-BKK $640

Yet, you have to stop in NRT before going to BKK and yet it's almost half the price to go to BKK.

Go figure.

If you're willing, would you share the name of the consolidator you used?

Thanks.

This has been my experience as well. I have gotten relatively cheap JFK-SIN fares for late August and early September travel (~700r/t), but most of the availability seems to come up for late September onwards. The fall is usually a good time to find cheap fares to Asia on UA.

The consolidator I use is called U.S.A. Gateway Travel. They have offices across the country. NYC, DC, Miami, LA and Dallas just to name a few. Unfortunately they don't have a website.

In the DC Metro area, call: 202-496-9008 (K Street) or (301)-762-2227 (Rockville)

I personally have not seen them advertise anywhere, but was told that they advertise in a few Asian American newspaper.

Although I live in the DC area, I purchase my tickets through their Miami office as I had used them for years while I lived in South Florida.

Hope this information is useful

I have also been buying from Gateway travel for almost a decade.

10 years ago I once paid $1400, in 1994 dollars, to fly to Asia during the summer in coach. This year I'm paying about $1300, in today's dollar, to fly to Asia during the summer in coach. It is a lot more expensive than the previous few years, but I also want to see United stay in business.

For the same trip, I've found AA/NW for about $800. If anyone in UA's market research wants to find out how much E+ and channel 9 are worth to a customer, I can tell them it is worth more than $450 to me on a transpac flight. (Yes, I know AA has MRTC, but no Channel 9...... Okay, so Channel 9 is worth $450 to me....)

I have been pricing fares DEN-BKK for just after Christmas. Cheapest I have been able to find are pricing between $900 and $1,000. Many are in the $1400 range. Most of the fares are a mixture of V and H fares

If you go into early January, the prices drop below the $900 figure.

I am finding them by using the ITA software. However if you go to United.com, everything is pricing as an M fare and significantly higher.

I am going to wait a bit to see if fares drop in June.

If you are flexible with the airline, it can be cheaper. I am needing to fly UA metal as I will be upgrading with SWUs, so I am less flexible. I am also wanting W fares to make my SWUs most cost-efficient.
