Any ideas why the chickens didn't like us?
LAS - SFO - PVG, a trip we have done many times. Normally the chickens accept the checkin but then direct us to a human rather than issuing boarding passes. (Quite understandable as this is a visa-required trip.)
Today as soon as it found our itinerary it balked and directed us to a human. The human didn't understand it, either, there was no haraSSSSment or the like and we both have what we think are unique names.
We are going to be in the air quite a while and then sleep when we get there, a lack of replies doesn't mean this thread is forgotten.

Reports from the consolidated forum indicate that your first international trip with the integrated UA system will not allow use of on-line check. The system requires your passport be scanned / seen by an agent.
There are reports that using your passport at a chicken would satisfy it, but others reporting the chickens are not working for passport scans.
The theory is that once your passport has been scanned / validated / blessed / whatever in the new system, the international check-in will again be possible.
YMMV.

Well, this is our first post-merger flight, let alone an international one.

The human intervention is needed for passport (and visa, if applicable, as Channa has pointed out) verification. This is standard under CO procedures.

Yeah--but in the past the chicken would accept all of your information anyway and then direct you to a human. It meant less human time involved as all they had to do is check your visa and put the already-printed tags on your bags. This time the human had to do everything.
