Earnings for marketed UA, operated NH/AC?
Happy new year, everyone!
I'm flying RT YUL-ORD-NRT in K in all segments. YUL-ORD is operated by Jazz Air Canada in both directions while ORD-NRT by NH in both directions. All flights are marketed by United. Mileage Plus states: http://www.united.com/page/article/0,8566,3122,00.html If you purchase a ticket on a flight that is marketed by United but operated by another airline (known as a code-share flight), the operating airline determines how many miles you earn for your flight. Even though I'd book the flight on United.com and fly on United numbered flights, will MileagePlus earnings apply according to NH and AC? Thanks! |

So that means YUL-ORD is 0 and ORD-NRT is 50%? I'd go going from 14,044 miles to 6,274 on a RT. :td:

OK, so I was just on the phone with reservations at United and the lady tells me that all segments will earn a 100%. United's earnings are a bit diffuse with the marketing vs operating rules - we're looking at straightening it out at Milefy but it's a curvy road.
The lady even told me to ignore what it says on the website. I'll take the risk this time to see if she turns out to be right. |

Looks like I'm in the minority, but my read is that you'll get 100% on NH. As the operating airline determines your earnings, and since you're on a TPAC flight on NH, it looks like the upper part of the chart should apply. And my impression is that with the JV the fare classes on the UA codeshare would map to the same fare class on NH. (At least this is how it's been working with CO codeshares operated by NH)

Star Alliance earning rates are determined by the operating carrier, not the airline whose code is on your ticket.

You need to call up NH and AC and ask what booking code you have. UA K may or may not map into K on NH and AC. Then you can look up UA earning chart to see how many miles you can earn. It is the metal and booking code of the operating airlines that counts. |
No need to call NH. The excluded fare classes are either non-rev or special excursion fares - not something you'd be able to book on your own.
On the NH-operated segments, you should get 100%. I've flown several NH-operated segments TPAC, continuing onto intra-asia (some on UA stock and some on NH stock - it doesn't matter) since the JV, and they've all earned 100%. |
Does the earning also include the 100% bonus RDM for 1Ks?
